The Exploits of Śaineya/Sātyaki amid Encirclement

iti śrīmahābhārate droṇaparvaṇi jayadrathavadhaparvaṇi saṅkulayuddhe pañcanavatitamo 'dhyāyaḥ

Sanjaya said: Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Droṇa Parva, in the sub-section concerning the slaying of Jayadratha, the ninety-fifth chapter—describing the tangled, confused intensity of battle—comes to its close. The colophon underscores the epic’s moral frame: even amid chaotic warfare, events are recorded as part of a larger dharmic narrative of consequence, duty, and the heavy cost of vengeance.

Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction but frames the narrative ethically: even chaotic violence is situated within a dharmic record where actions carry consequences, and the pursuit of vengeance (Jayadratha’s death) is treated as a pivotal moral and strategic turning point.

This is the formal closing line of the chapter: it identifies the larger book (Droṇa Parva), the sub-section (Jayadratha’s slaying), and the chapter’s theme (a confused, entangled battle), signaling that the described episode has concluded.
