Educational Q&A

The line highlights the moral and psychological tension of war: people may speak with confidence and hope for victory, yet outcomes are not guaranteed. It subtly points to the limits of human expectation in the face of unfolding events and consequences.

Sañjaya addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra and frames the scene: the warriors (or leaders) are conversing and expressing hopes for victory. The verse functions as a narrative transition, setting the mood of confident expectation before the next development in the battle account.
