Vyāsa said: “You have understood that death comes to all beings with impartial equality, and that prosperity and lordly fortune are unstable and ever-shifting. You have also heard the account of Sṛñjaya’s son—how he died and yet was restored to life again.”
व्यास उवाच
Death is impartial and comes equally to all beings, while wealth and worldly power are inherently unstable; therefore one should cultivate detachment and steadiness rather than relying on fortune.
Vyāsa reminds the listener of two lessons—universal mortality and the fickleness of prosperity—and reinforces them by citing a known exemplum: the story of Sṛñjaya’s son who died and was later revived.
