Meanwhile, as an obstruction arose in Abhimanyu’s undertaking, Vṛṣasena’s charioteer drew his chariot away from that spot. Seeing this, the gathered body of chariot-warriors, elated, raised a loud cry of approval—“Well done! Well done!”—rejoicing at the hindrance to Abhimanyu’s advance.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the moral psychology of war: crowds often celebrate tactical advantage even when it comes through obstructing a valiant opponent. It implicitly contrasts outward applause (“sādhu sādhu”) with the deeper ethical question of whether hindering a righteous hero accords with dharma.

During Abhimanyu’s action on the battlefield, an impediment arises. At that moment Vṛṣasena’s charioteer pulls the chariot away, and the surrounding chariot-warriors, pleased by the setback to Abhimanyu, shout approvingly and make a loud commotion.
