द्रोणानीकाभिमुखगमनम्
Abhimanyu advances toward Droṇa’s host
tad adbhutam apaśyāma droṇasya bhujayor balam | yad enaṃ nābhyavartanta pāñcālāḥ sṛñjayaiḥ saha ||
Sañjaya said: Then we beheld the wondrous might in Droṇa’s two arms—so great that the Pāñcāla warriors, even together with the Sṛñjayas, could not stand before him or turn back to face him. The scene underscores how, in war, disciplined mastery and command can overwhelm even a renowned collective force, reminding the listener that prowess without prudent strategy and moral steadiness falters against a superior leader.

The verse highlights the decisive impact of concentrated skill and command in battle: even a famed coalition (Pāñcālas with Sṛñjayas) can fail to hold its ground when confronted by a superior warrior-leader. Ethically, it also cautions that mere numbers or reputation do not substitute for disciplined preparedness and clear strategy.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that they witnessed Droṇa’s extraordinary martial power. Droṇa’s onslaught is so formidable that the Pāñcāla forces, even reinforced by the Sṛñjayas, are unable to face him steadily or withstand his advance.
