Sañjaya said: “His bow, adorned with gold, flashed like lightning amid the clouds. We could see that golden, gleaming bow of Droṇa—of immeasurable splendor—shining in every direction.” The image underscores how martial prowess, when joined to a formidable will, can dominate the moral and physical landscape of war, filling all quarters with awe and dread.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how overwhelming power and brilliance in war can pervade all ‘directions’—not only physically but psychologically—reminding the listener that martial excellence carries grave ethical weight when deployed in a dharma-conflicted battle.

Sañjaya narrates to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the battlefield scene: Droṇa’s gold-ornamented bow is seen flashing everywhere, compared to lightning in clouds, emphasizing Droṇa’s formidable presence and the terror-inspiring momentum of his actions.
