ईदृशश्व महादेवो भूयांश्न भगवानज: । न हि सर्वे मया शक््या वक्तुं भगवतो गुणा:
īdṛśaś ca mahādevo bhūyāṁś ca bhagavān ajaḥ | na hi sarve mayā śakyā vaktuṁ bhagavato guṇāḥ ||
Vyāsa said: “Such indeed is Mahādeva—ever greater, the Blessed One, the Unborn. For it is not possible for me to fully describe all the qualities of that Lord.”
व्यास उवाच
The verse emphasizes devotional humility: even a great sage like Vyāsa admits the Lord’s virtues are beyond complete verbal description, highlighting the immeasurable nature of divine excellence.
Vyāsa, speaking within the Drona Parva context, offers a reverential characterization of Mahādeva (Śiva) as supremely exalted and unborn, and declares the inadequacy of human speech to enumerate all of the Lord’s qualities.
