evam ete varā labdhāḥ purastād viddhi śauriṇā | sa eṣa devaślāvarati māyayā mohayaj jagat |

Vyāsa said: “Know that these boons were obtained long ago by Śauri (Kṛṣṇa). That very divine Nārāyaṇa, appearing in the form of Kṛṣṇa, moves about in the world, deluding beings through his own māyā.”

Educational Q&A

The verse identifies Kṛṣṇa as Nārāyaṇa himself and highlights māyā: the divine power by which the Lord can veil his true nature and bewilder the world, even while acting within history.

Vyāsa explains that Kṛṣṇa (Śauri) had already received powerful boons earlier (traditionally from Śaṅkara/Śiva) and that this same supreme divinity now roams the world in Kṛṣṇa’s form, influencing events through māyā.
