evaṁ bruvati kaunteye dāśārhas tvaritas tataḥ | nivārya sainyaṁ bāhubhyām idaṁ vacanam abravīt ||
Sañjaya said: While Kuntī’s son (Yudhiṣṭhira) was speaking in this manner, the swift-acting Kṛṣṇa, the glory of the Dāśārha line, at once checked the entire army with gestures of both his arms and then spoke these words. The scene underscores disciplined restraint in war: even amid rising emotion and counsel, the leader first halts uncontrolled momentum before giving guidance.

Effective dharmic leadership in conflict begins with restraint: before issuing counsel or strategy, Kṛṣṇa first halts the army’s movement, signaling that discipline and control of force must precede action.
As Yudhiṣṭhira is speaking, Kṛṣṇa quickly intervenes, stops the troops with a physical signal (both arms), and prepares to address them—marking a transition from Yudhiṣṭhira’s words to Kṛṣṇa’s directive guidance.
