Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how inherited hostilities (kulakrama-āgata vaira) can shape moral and strategic choices in war, raising an ethical tension between personal/lineage obligations and broader dharma—especially when the opponent is also a revered teacher.

Dhṛṣṭadyumna reminds the Pāṇḍavas that his long-standing, publicly known feud with Droṇa is hereditary and famous, implying that his resolve against Droṇa is grounded in an established lineage conflict and should not be surprising to them.
