O lord of the people, Dhṛtarāṣṭra entrusted the sovereignty of this entire earth to Bhīṣma and to Droṇa, together with his sons who were devoted to serving them. The statement underscores how political power was formally placed under the guardianship of revered elders, while the princes remained bound to their authority and agenda—an arrangement that carries ethical weight when such entrusted power is later used to sustain adharma and war.

Entrusting power to revered elders and institutions does not automatically ensure dharma; ethical responsibility remains with both the one who delegates authority and those who accept and exercise it. Loyalty and service (tatparatā) become morally significant when they support unjust ends.
The speaker recalls that Dhṛtarāṣṭra placed the rule of the realm under Bhīṣma and Droṇa, with his sons aligned in service to them. It frames the political structure behind the conflict: the Kaurava princes operate under the authority and protection of these senior warriors-teachers.
