ततः स्वरथमारोप्य पाञ्चाल्यमरिमर्दन: । अब्रवीदभिसपम्प्रेक्ष्य द्रोणमस्यन्तमन्तिकात्,पांचालराजकुमार धृष्टद्युम्न रथहीन हो गये थे। उनके सारे अस्त्र-शस्त्र नष्ट हो चुके थे और वे भारी विषादमें डूब गये थे। उस अवस्थामें शत्रुमर्दन बलवान् भीमसेन उन महामनस्वी पांचालवीरके पास तुरंत आ पहुँचे और उन्हें अपने रथपर बिठाकर द्रोणाचार्यको निकटसे बाण चलाते देख इस प्रकार बोले---
tataḥ svaratham āropya pāñcālyam arimardanaḥ | abravīd abhisamprekṣya droṇam asyantam antikāt ||
Sañjaya said: Then the foe-crushing Bhīmasena lifted the Pāñcāla prince onto his own chariot. Seeing Droṇa shooting arrows at close range, he addressed him—framing the moment as a rescue amid the harsh ethics of battle, where protecting an ally who has lost his means of fighting becomes an urgent duty even as the violence continues unabated.
