वर्तमाने तथा युद्धे घोरे देवासुरोपमे

Transliteration

vartamāne tathā yuddhe ghore devāsuropame

Translation

As that dreadful battle was in progress—one that resembled the primeval clash between the gods and the demons—Sañjaya frames the scene as a cosmic-scale conflict, emphasizing the terrifying intensity and moral gravity of war when it reaches such extremes.
