kecid anyatra gacchantaḥ pathi cānyair upadrutāḥ
Bhīmasena said: “Some, trying to flee elsewhere, were on the road assailed and harried by others.”
भीमसेन उवाच
The verse highlights how, in war, fear and disorder spread quickly: even those attempting to escape become vulnerable to further harm. Ethically, it underscores the destructive, cascading nature of violence once dharma is eclipsed by panic and aggression.
Bhīma describes a battlefield scene where combatants or followers try to flee to other places, but are intercepted and attacked on the roads by opposing groups (or other hostile forces), intensifying the rout and confusion.
