punarjātam ivātmānaṃ manvānāḥ puruṣarṣabhāḥ | alāyudhaṃ rākṣasendraṃ svāgatenābhyapūjayan ||
Sanjaya said: The foremost of men, thinking of themselves as if newly reborn, welcomed and honored Alāyudha, the lord of the Rākṣasas, with due rites of reception—taking heart again amid the pressures of war and placing fresh hope in a powerful ally.
संजय उवाच
Even in warfare, conduct (ācāra) matters: receiving an ally with proper welcome reflects social dharma and strategic prudence, while also showing how hope and morale can be renewed by support.
The Kaurava heroes, encouraged as though given new life, formally welcome and honor Alāyudha, the Rākṣasa leader, acknowledging him as a significant reinforcement in the ongoing conflict.
