बहूनि तव सैन्यानि योधाश्व बहवस्तव । न तथा पाण्डुपुत्राणामेवं युद्धमवर्तत,पहले तुम्हारे पास बहुत-सी सेनाएँ और बहुत-से योद्धा थे। पाण्डवोंके पास उतने सैनिक नहीं थे। इस अवस्थामें युद्ध आरम्भ हुआ था
bahūni tava sainyāni yodhāś ca bahavas tava | na tathā pāṇḍuputrāṇām evaṁ yuddham avartata ||
Karna said: “You had many armies and many warriors. The sons of Pandu did not have so many. It was under such unequal conditions that this war began.”
कर्ण उवाच
The verse highlights how claims of justice in war are often framed against the backdrop of unequal power: Karna points to the initial imbalance in forces to argue about fairness, responsibility, and the moral weight of advantage in conflict.
Karna addresses his opponent/party, reminding them that the Kaurava side began the war with far greater numbers, whereas the Pandavas were comparatively fewer; he uses this fact as a pointed argument within the ongoing debate and tension of the battlefield.
