Ghaṭotkaca Slays Alāyudha (Night Battle and Māyā Countermeasures) /
rājan brūyāḥ sutaṃ me tvam aśvatthāmānam āhave | na somakāḥ pramoktavyā jīvitaṃ parirakṣatā ||
Sañjaya said: “O King, go and convey to my son Aśvatthāmā on the battlefield: ‘Even while safeguarding your own life, do not let the Somakas escape alive.’” The line underscores the hardening of intent in war, where survival is invoked not to restrain violence but to ensure the completion of a ruthless objective.
