Bhīmasena and Alāyudha: Night Engagement and Command Responses

sañjaya uvāca | saindhave nihate rājan putras tava suyodhanaḥ | aśrupūrṇamukho dīno nirutsāho dviṣajjaye ||

Sanjaya said: O King, when the lord of Sindhu (Jayadratha) had been slain, your son Suyodhana (Duryodhana) became overwhelmed with grief. His face was filled with tears; dejected and dispirited, he lost the drive with which he sought victory over his foes. The verse highlights how attachment to allies and the shock of loss can collapse resolve in war, exposing the ethical fragility of a campaign driven by pride and possession rather than dharma.
