Sañjaya said: “In every way we are to be protected by you, just as the gods are protected by Śakra (Indra). For by those very qualities of yours you have been granted to us as a well-wishing friend, endowed with every excellence.”

The verse frames ideal leadership as protective guardianship: just as Indra safeguards the gods, a virtuous ally or ruler should safeguard those who depend on him. Ethical authority is grounded in sarva-guṇa (comprehensive excellence) and suhṛt-bhāva (genuine goodwill), not merely power.
Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, conveys praise directed toward a powerful protector figure, comparing him to Indra. The speaker emphasizes that the community relies on this person for complete protection and recognizes him as a well-wishing friend endowed with many virtues.
