Chapter 148: Karṇa’s Pressure, Dhṛṣṭadyumna Unhorsed, and the Summoning of Ghaṭotkaca

Sañjaya said: Then, right there, Janārdana (Kṛṣṇa), pressed by urgency, spoke again: “Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), cut off at once the head of the wicked Saindhava (Jayadratha).” The command underscores the moral and strategic necessity of swift action in war when a grievous wrong has been committed and justice must be executed without delay.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights decisive performance of one’s duty (kṣātra-dharma) when justice and protection of the righteous require immediate action; Kṛṣṇa’s guidance frames urgency as ethically grounded resolve rather than impulsive violence.

In the midst of the battle, Kṛṣṇa urgently instructs Arjuna to behead Jayadratha (Saindhava), pressing Arjuna to act swiftly at a critical moment in the Drona Parva conflict.
