Sañjaya said: From him was born a son named Yādava (Yadu). In Yadu’s lineage arose one famed as Devamīḍha; his son was Śūra, honored throughout the three worlds. From Śūra came the foremost of the Śauris—Vasudeva—renowned for great glory. The passage situates Kṛṣṇa’s family line within a respected royal genealogy, underscoring inherited responsibility, public honor, and the ethical weight of noble conduct in times of crisis.

Educational Q&A

By highlighting a lineage celebrated across the ‘three worlds,’ the verse stresses that noble birth is tied to public accountability: fame (yaśas) and honor are sustained by dharmic conduct, especially when one’s family stands as a moral reference point in turbulent times.

Sañjaya recounts a genealogical sequence within the Yādava line—Yadu → (in that lineage) Devamīḍha → Śūra → Vasudeva—establishing Vasudeva’s eminent standing and situating the broader narrative around the stature of Kṛṣṇa’s family.
