Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s advance toward Droṇa and the Sātyaki–Karṇa confrontation
ko hi nāma pramattāya pareṇa saha yudhyate | īdṛśaṃ vyasanaṃ dadyād yo na kṛṣṇasakho bhavet ||
Bhūriśravā said: “Who indeed would fight against an opponent who is heedless, and then inflict upon him such a calamity? Such a deed could not be accomplished by one who is not a friend of Kṛṣṇa.”
The verse invokes the kṣatriya ideal of fair combat: it is improper to take advantage of an opponent’s heedlessness and to cause him grave harm. It also frames extraordinary battlefield outcomes as possible only through association with Kṛṣṇa, implying a moral and providential dimension to victory.
Bhūriśravā comments on a battlefield incident where a vulnerable or inattentive fighter is struck and suffers severe misfortune. He questions who would do such a thing and attributes the capacity to bring about such an outcome to being Kṛṣṇa’s ally, reflecting both reproach and recognition of Kṛṣṇa’s influence in the war.
