Sañjaya said: “In whatever battles Karṇa fought together with the sons of Pāṇḍu, in every case the Pāṇḍavas overcame Karṇa on the field of war.” The statement underscores a moral contrast between boast and outcome: prowess must be measured by conduct and results in righteous combat, not by mere reputation.

Educational Q&A

Martial reputation is secondary to demonstrated conduct and outcomes in dharmic struggle; Sañjaya’s report emphasizes that Karṇa, despite fame, was repeatedly checked by the Pāṇḍavas, reminding the listener that power is not absolute and results unfold under larger moral and karmic conditions.

Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, summarizes Karṇa’s prior encounters with the Pāṇḍavas and states that in each such battle on the field, the Pāṇḍavas were the victors over Karṇa.
