Sañjaya said: As the mighty-armed Bhīmasena advanced, the valiant Pāñcālas together with the Somakas followed close behind him—just as the immortals follow Maghavat (Indra). The verse underscores how exemplary leadership in a righteous cause draws willing support, even amid the moral strain of war.

The verse highlights the ethical power of exemplary leadership: when a foremost warrior advances with resolve in a just alliance, others follow with confidence and unity—symbolized by the gods following Indra.
Bhīmasena moves forward in the battle context, and the Pāñcāla and Somaka warriors follow behind him in close support, compared to the immortals accompanying Indra.
