Sañjaya said: Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Droṇa Parva, in the section concerning the slaying of Jayadratha, the chapter dealing with the killing of Sudarśana—being the one hundred and eighteenth chapter—comes to an end. (This is the colophon marking the close of the chapter.)

This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement. Its function is ethical-literary: it preserves textual integrity and lineage by clearly marking the end of a chapter and situating it within the larger structure (Parva and sub-parva), reminding readers that events are part of an ordered narrative where actions and consequences are tracked.
The verse does not advance the plot directly; it formally concludes the chapter. It states that, within Droṇa Parva and the Jayadratha-slaying section, the episode concerning the killing of Sudarśana has been completed, and this is counted as the 118th chapter.
