Sanjaya said: “Immediately after that, this great force of the Dakṣiṇātyas (southern warriors) is seen; and after them, this great host of the Bāhvikas comes into view.” The verse continues the ethical-narrative framing of the war by cataloguing the vast, region-based contingents—underscoring how many peoples are drawn into the conflict and how immense the burden of violence has become.

The verse is not a doctrinal instruction but a moral-narrative reminder: the war’s devastation is magnified by the participation of many regions and peoples, highlighting the far-reaching human cost when kṣatriya power and political rivalry escalate into total conflict.
Sanjaya is reporting the battlefield array by listing successive contingents. Here he notes that after one group, the great southern (Dakṣiṇātya) force is seen, and after them the great host of the Bāhvikas.
