Droṇa-parva 112: Karṇa–Bhīma Engagement and Duryodhana’s Protective Order
धृष्टद्युम्नं च पाउचाल्यमिदमाह जनाधिप:,इसके बाद राजाने पांचालराजकुमार धृष्टद्युम्नसे इस प्रकार कहा--'ट्रुपदनन्दन! खड़े क्यों हो? तुरंत ही द्रोणाचार्यपर धावा करो। क्या तुम नहीं देखते कि द्रोणकी ओरसे हमलोगोंपर घोर भय उपस्थित हो गया है?
sañjaya uvāca | dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ ca pāñcālyam idam āha janādhipaḥ | "trupadanandana! tiṣṭhasi kim? tūrṇam eva droṇācāryeṇa saha yudhyasva, droṇam abhidhāva. na paśyasi kiṃ droṇataḥ asmāsu ghoraṃ bhayam upasthitam" iti |
Sanjaya said: Then the king addressed Dhrishtadyumna, the prince of Panchala, in these words: “Son of Drupada, why do you stand still? Rush at once against Acharya Drona. Do you not see that, because of Drona, a dreadful fear has arisen for us?”
संजय उवाच
In the battlefield context, the verse highlights kshatriya leadership under crisis: hesitation is censured, and decisive action is urged when a grave threat endangers one’s side. Ethically, it frames courage and prompt duty-performance as necessary responses to fear and danger.
Sanjaya reports that the king addresses Dhrishtadyumna, urging him not to stand idle but to immediately charge at Acharya Drona, because Drona’s prowess has created intense fear and peril for their forces.
