Sañjaya said: Many people, seized with curiosity, gathered to look at that rākṣasa lying there—fallen to the ground by sheer chance, like a heavy load suddenly dropped upon the earth.

The verse highlights a moral tension of war: even amid death and collapse, onlookers can be drawn by mere curiosity. It implicitly cautions that fascination with violence can dull compassion and ethical sensitivity.
Sañjaya reports that many people, stirred by curiosity, come to see a rākṣasa who has fallen to the ground—described through a simile of a heavy burden suddenly dropped upon the earth.
