Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 109 — Karṇa–Bhīma Yuddha and Durmukha’s Fall (कर्णभीमयुद्धम्; दुर्मुखवधः)
नाशयित्वा रणे सैन्यं त्वदीयं माधवोत्तम:
nāśayitvā raṇe sainyaṃ tvadīyaṃ mādhavottamaḥ
Sañjaya said: “Having destroyed your army in the battle, the foremost of the Mādhavas (Kṛṣṇa) …”
संजय उवाच
The line underscores the moral weight of war: even when guided by a revered figure like Kṛṣṇa, battle results in the annihilation of vast forces, highlighting the grave consequences of adharma-driven conflict and the inevitability of retribution in a righteous war.
Sañjaya, reporting to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, begins describing how Kṛṣṇa (called Mādhavottama) has brought about the destruction of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s forces in the ongoing battle; the verse is a partial clause that leads into the next statement in the passage.
