भीमसेन–कर्णयुद्धवर्णनम्

Description of the Bhīmasena–Karṇa Engagement

इस प्रकार श्रीमह्ाभारत द्रोणपर्वके अन्तर्गत जयद्रथवधपर्वमें दुर्योधन-पराजयविषयक एक सौ तीनवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ

iti prakāraḥ śrīmahābhārate droṇaparvake antargataṃ jayadrathavadhaparvaṇi duryodhana-parājaya-viṣayaka eka-śata-trayodaśo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ

Sañjaya said: Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Droṇa Parva—specifically in the section concerning the slaying of Jayadratha—the one-hundred-and-third chapter, dealing with the defeat of Duryodhana, is concluded. The closing formula frames the episode as part of the larger moral and strategic arc of the war, where pride and aggression meet their consequences amid the inexorable movement of dharma and fate.

Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it signals the ethical arc of the narrative: in war driven by adharma—especially arrogance and obstinacy—defeat becomes a natural consequence, and events unfold within a larger framework of dharma and destiny.

This is the formal closing line marking the end of a chapter in the Droṇa Parva, within the Jayadratha-slaying episode, specifying that the chapter’s subject is Duryodhana’s defeat and that the chapter is now complete.
