द्रोणपर्व (अध्याय १) — भीष्मनिधनानन्तरं धृतराष्ट्रस्य शोकः, सेनायाः स्थितिः, कर्णस्मरणं च

जामदग्न्याभ्यनुज्ञातमस्त्रे दुर्वारपौरुषम्‌ । अगमन्नो मन: कर्ण बन्धुमात्ययिकेष्विव,राजन! कर्णने जमदग्निनन्दन परशुरामजीसे अस्त्र-विद्याकी शिक्षा प्राप्त की है और उसका पराक्रम दुर्निवार्य है। इसीलिये हमलोगोंका मन कर्णकी ओर गया, ठीक वैसे ही, जैसे बड़ी भारी आपत्तिके समय मनुष्यका मन अपने मित्रों तथा सगे-सम्बन्धियोंकी ओर जाता है

jāmadagnyābhyanujñātam astre durvārapauruṣam | agamanno manaḥ karṇa bandhumātyayikeṣv iva, rājan ||

Sañjaya said: O King, our minds turned toward Karṇa—whose irresistible prowess in weapons had been sanctioned by Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma)—just as, in a time of grave calamity, a person’s thoughts naturally go to friends and close kin for support.
