भीष्मस्य मध्याह्नयुद्धवर्णनम् / Mid-day Battle Description: Bhīṣma Engaged by the Pāñcālas
parasparaṁ samāsādya tava teṣāṁ ca saṁyuge | bhārata! |
Sañjaya said: “O Bhārata (Dhṛtarāṣṭra), having closed with one another in battle—your forces and theirs—the two vast armies were locked in mutual assault, trampling and being trampled on the field.”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the grave human cost of war: once armies ‘close in’ (samāsādya), violence becomes reciprocal and indiscriminate—trampling and being trampled—highlighting how conflict consumes both sides and intensifies the consequences of adharma-driven rivalry.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the two great forces—his (the Kauravas) and theirs (the Pāṇḍavas)—have met head-on in battle and are crushing each other in the press of combat on the battlefield.
