Adhyāya 86: Irāvān’s Lineage, Cavalry Clash, and the Māyā-Duel Ending in Irāvān’s Fall
छाद्यमान: शरौघेण हृष्टरूपतरो5भवत् | तयोश्वाप्यभवत् प्रीतिरतुला मातृकारणात्,उनके बाणसमूहोंसे आच्छादित होकर भी शल्य अत्यन्त प्रसन्न ही हुए। माताके नाते नकुल और सहदेवके मनमें भी उनके प्रति अनुपम प्रेमका भाव था
chādyamānaḥ śaraughena hṛṣṭarūpataro 'bhavat | tayoś cāpy abhavat prītir atulā mātṛkāraṇāt |
Sañjaya said: Though covered over by a torrent of arrows, Śalya only grew more radiant and exhilarated. And in Nakula and Sahadeva too there arose an incomparable affection for him, born of their bond through their mother.
संजय उवाच
Even amid violent conflict, human bonds and gratitude rooted in family ties can persist; the verse highlights heroic composure under attack and the ethical complexity of war where affection and duty coexist.
Śalya is being showered with arrows yet remains visibly exhilarated and undaunted. Nakula and Sahadeva, connected to him through their mother’s lineage, feel a deep, incomparable affection toward him despite the battlefield setting.
