Even amid war, one’s duty includes disciplined coordination and the protection of revered elders and leaders; loyalty and responsibility to the commander (here, Bhīṣma as Pitāmaha) are presented as an ethical obligation of the assembled warriors.
Sanjaya reports that Bhīṣma is advancing into the battle with the full force, and he urges all the warriors—already armed and positioned—to make deliberate efforts to guard and defend Bhīṣma on the battlefield.
