Sañjaya said: Then, O King, those warriors—who had inflicted wounds upon one another—went back to their own camps, their bodies drenched in blood. The day’s fighting closes not with triumph but with the sobering return to shelter, bearing the visible cost of mutual harm.

Even when framed as kṣatriya-duty, war is shown as mutual injury with immediate human cost; the verse underscores the ethical weight of violence by highlighting blood-soaked bodies returning to camp rather than celebrating victory.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that after the day’s fighting, the warriors—having wounded one another—withdraw from the battlefield and go back to their respective camps, drenched in blood.
