Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
Dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca: Ghātayiṣyati me sarvān putrān Bhīmo na saṁśayaḥ.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “Bhīma will surely have all my sons slain—of this there is no doubt.” In this cry of fear, the blind king foresees the moral and political collapse brought on by his own partiality: the war’s violence, once unleashed, will not spare those he most wishes to protect.
Unchecked attachment and partiality in leadership invite ruin: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s fear reflects the karmic and ethical consequences of supporting adharma, where violence rebounds upon one’s own house.
In the Bhīṣma Parva’s war setting, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, hearing reports through Sañjaya, is overwhelmed by foreboding and declares his certainty that Bhīma will bring about the death of all his sons.
