भीष्मस्य भीमसेन-निरोधः
Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
भूरिश्रवा विकर्णश्र भगदत्तश्न वीर्यवान् । महारथा: समाख्याता: कुलपुत्रास्तनुत्यज:,दुर्योधनने पूछा--पितामह! आप, द्रोणाचार्य, शल्य, कृपाचार्य, अश्वत्थामा, हृदिकपुत्र कृतवर्मा, कम्बोजराज सुदक्षिण, भूरिश्रवा, विकर्ण तथा पराक्रमी भगदत्त--ये सब महारथी कहे जाते हैं। सभी कुलीन और युद्धमें मेरे लिये अपना शरीर निछावर करनेको तैयार हैं
Bhūriśravā vikarṇaś ca bhagadattaś ca vīryavān | mahārathāḥ samākhyātāḥ kulaputrās tanutyajaḥ ||
Duryodhana said: “Bhūriśravas, Vikarna, and the valiant Bhagadatta are all proclaimed to be great chariot-warriors (mahārathas). They are high-born sons of noble lineages, ready to lay down their bodies for my cause.” In this moment, Duryodhana frames loyalty and martial reputation as the measure of worth, revealing the ethical tension of the war: noble birth and personal valor are invoked to justify unwavering commitment to a contested, adharma-leaning leadership.
