Adhyāya 65: Dawn Assembly, Makara–Śyena Vyūhas, and Commander Engagements
अभिमन्युरविध्यत् तु दशभिर्दशभि: शरै: । भारत! अभिमन्युने समरभूमिमें सत्यव्रत और पुरुमित्रको दस-दस बाणोंसे पीड़ित किया
abhimanyur avidhyat tu daśabhir daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ | bhārata! abhimanyunā samarabhūmau satyavrataḥ purumitraś ca daśa-daśa-bāṇaiḥ pīḍitau |
Sañjaya said: Then Abhimanyu struck them with arrows—ten and ten. O descendant of Bharata, on the battlefield Abhimanyu pained Satyavrata and Purumitra, each with ten shafts, pressing the fight forward with disciplined martial resolve.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in practice: disciplined, measured action in battle (ten arrows each) and steadfast engagement without hesitation, as reported neutrally by Sañjaya.
Sañjaya describes Abhimanyu on the battlefield striking two opposing warriors—Satyavrata and Purumitra—wounding each with ten arrows, indicating Abhimanyu’s prowess and the intensifying combat.
