Vāsudeva-Māhātmya: Duryodhana’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Theological Account of Keśava

muhūrtadṛṣṭaḥ sa mayā patito bhuvi dṛśyate |

Sañjaya said: “I saw him only for a brief moment—then he was seen fallen upon the earth.” In the moral atmosphere of the battle, the line underscores the terrifying inevitability of death before Bhīṣma: warriors who come face to face with him appear for an instant and are immediately brought down, revealing how prowess and fate can overwhelm individual effort in war.
