Adhyāya 6: Pañca-mahābhūta–guṇa-nirdeśa and Sudarśana-dvīpa
Five Elements, Sensory Qualities, and a Cosmographic Island
asty uttarena kailāsaṁ mainākaṁ parvataṁ prati | hiraṇyaśṛṅgaḥ sumahān divyo maṇimayo giriḥ ||
Sañjaya said: North of Mount Kailāsa lies the mountain Maināka; and still farther to the north stands the great, divine, jewel-like peak called Hiraṇyaśṛṅga. By naming these sacred mountains, the narration situates the listener within a cosmic geography that frames the war as occurring under the gaze of a vast, ordered world—reminding one that human conflict unfolds within a larger moral and sacred horizon.
