Sañjaya said: Having respectfully saluted Śalya and then circumambulated him in reverence, King Yudhiṣṭhira addressed him with words aimed at his own highest good—seeking counsel and support in a situation that was difficult to overcome amid the moral strain of war.
संजय उवाच
Even in the harsh setting of war, dharmic conduct is shown through humility and proper respect toward elders and allies; seeking counsel for one’s niḥśreyasa (true welfare) emphasizes ethical deliberation over mere victory.
Sañjaya narrates that Yudhiṣṭhira approaches Śalya, offers formal salutations and circumambulation, and then speaks to him about what would be beneficial—setting up a request for guidance or support in the unfolding battle context.
