“By heeding my counsel, you will uphold honor, righteousness, and lasting renown—and thereby attain heaven. Let the Pāṇḍavas regain their rightful kingdom, and let the Kauravas enter into reconciliation and come to peace.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True glory is not merely victory but the protection of dharma: maintaining honor, righteousness, and good name by choosing a just settlement and peace. The verse links ethical governance and restraint with spiritual merit (svarga).
In the Bhīṣma Parva’s opening context, counsel is being voiced urging a peaceful resolution: the Pāṇḍavas should receive their kingdom, and the Kauravas should abandon hostility and move toward concord, thereby preserving reputation and righteousness.
