उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
दिक्षु प्रज्वलितास्याश्व व्याहरन्ति मृगद्धिजा: । अत्याहितं दर्शयन्तो वेदयन्ति महद् भयम्,चारों दिशाओंमें पशु और पक्षी प्राणान्तकारी अनर्थका दर्शन कराते हुए भयंकर बोली बोल रहे हैं। उनके मुख प्रज्वलित दिखायी देते हैं और वे अपने शब्दोंसे किसी महान् भयकी सूचना दे रहे हैं
dikṣu prajvalitāsyāś ca vyāharanti mṛgadvijāḥ | atyāhitaṃ darśayanto vedayanti mahad bhayam ||
Vyāsa says: “In every direction, beasts and birds cry out with mouths that seem aflame. By displaying ominous portents of deadly calamity, their calls announce the approach of a great terror.”
व्यास उवाच
The verse highlights how adharma and impending mass violence are mirrored by disturbing signs in nature; it frames the coming war as morally and cosmically weighty, urging attentiveness to warnings and the ethical gravity of collective actions.
Vyāsa reports terrifying omens: across all directions, animals and birds cry out with fiery-looking mouths, indicating deadly misfortune and signaling that a great fear—linked to the imminent conflict—is approaching.
