Dhyāna-Yoga

Discipline of Meditation and Mental Restraint

evaṁ paramparāprāptam imaṁ rājarṣayo viduḥ | sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣṭaḥ parantapa ||

This Yoga was handed down through an unbroken lineage, and the royal sages came to know it in that way. But with the passage of a long time in this world, that discipline was lost—O scorcher of foes—so its guiding ethical clarity faded from common practice.

Educational Q&A

True Yoga is not a private invention but a dharmic discipline preserved through an authentic lineage; when that transmission breaks, the teaching becomes obscured, leading to ethical and spiritual confusion.

In the Kurukshetra setting, the speaker states that the Yoga being discussed was once known by royal sages through succession, but over long time it declined in the world—setting up the need for its renewed instruction in the present crisis.
