The wise call that person a true sage whose every undertaking is free from desire and self-serving intention, and whose actions have been burned away in the fire of knowledge. Such a one still acts in the world according to what is right, yet remains inwardly unattached, because insight has dissolved the binding force of karma.
अजुन उवाच
A person becomes truly wise when actions are performed without desire for personal gain and without ego-driven intention; through knowledge, the binding residue of karma is ‘burned,’ so action no longer enslaves.
In the Gītā’s instruction on karma-yoga, the teaching clarifies how one may act in the world yet remain free: the mark of a sage is desireless undertaking and knowledge that removes karmic bondage.
