Sañjaya said: All the Pāṇḍavas together, and the Kauravas—those great chariot-warriors—approached the noble Bhīṣma as he lay upon his auspicious bed. O King, they went near him in a spirit of reverence, honoring the elder who stood as a father to them, and attended to his protection even amid the harsh demands of war.

Educational Q&A

Even in the midst of war, dharma requires honoring elders and recognizing nobility of character; reverence and protective care can coexist with martial duty.

Sañjaya reports that both sides—the Pāṇḍavas and the Kaurava great warriors—go together to Bhīṣma, who is lying on an auspicious bed, and approach him respectfully (the broader passage describes honoring and safeguarding him after his fall).
