The verse highlights how a solemn resolve (samaya) can drive action in war, but also warns implicitly about the moral and psychological cost when duty and vengeance mingle—anger can overwhelm discernment even while one frames the goal in lofty terms (Brahmaloka).
On the tenth day of the Kurukṣetra war, the Pāṇḍavas, having made a firm plan/pledge, advance in a fury, determined to bring down Bhīṣma; the broader episode involves arranging the battle formation and strategy that will enable Bhīṣma’s fall.
