भीष्मपर्व — अध्याय ११०: पार्थभीमयोः प्रहारः तथा भीष्माभिमुखं संग्रामविस्तारः

Arjuna and Bhima’s pressure; escalation toward Bhishma

संजय उवाच ते तु ज्ञात्वा ततः पार्था जग्मु: स्वशिबिरं प्रति । अभिवाद्य महात्मानं भीष्म॑ कुरुपितामहम्‌

sañjaya uvāca te tu jñātvā tataḥ pārthā jagmuḥ svaśibiraṃ prati | abhivādya mahātmānaṃ bhīṣmaṃ kurupitāmaham ||

Sañjaya said: Having understood this, the Pāṇḍava princes then returned to their own camp. After paying respectful homage to the great-souled Bhīṣma, the grandsire of the Kurus, they withdrew—upholding the warrior’s code of reverence even amid the hostilities of war.

Educational Q&A

Even in a righteous war, dharma requires restraint and respect: the Pāṇḍavas honor Bhīṣma as an elder and revered grandsire, showing that ethical conduct and reverence are not abandoned amid conflict.

After grasping what has been conveyed in the preceding context, the Pāṇḍavas depart and return to their own encampment, first offering salutations to Bhīṣma, the Kuru grandsire.
