शरैर्घातयतु क्षिप्रं समन्‍्ताद्‌ भरतर्षभ | भरतश्रेष्ठ] इसी अवसरका लाभ लेकर पाण्डुपुत्र अर्जुन मुझे चारों ओरसे शीघ्रतापूर्वक बाणोंद्वारा मार डालनेका प्रयत्न करे

Transliteration

śarair ghātayatu kṣipraṃ samantād bharatarṣabha |

Translation

Bhīṣma said: “O bull among the Bharatas, let him swiftly strike me down with arrows from all sides.” In the ethical frame of the war, Bhīṣma—bound by his vow and fighting for the Kauravas—invites Arjuna to take the rightful tactical opening, showing both his warrior’s candor and his acceptance of fate within kṣatriya-dharma.
