भीमसेनस्य बहुमहारथसंयुगः

Bhīmasena’s Engagement with Multiple Mahārathas

vavarṣa śaravarṣeṇa megho vṛṣṭyā yathācalau |

Sañjaya said: Bhīṣma, the son of Śāntanu, seeing the lion among men—Śrī Kṛṣṇa—and Arjuna seated together upon their chariot, once again began to shower them with a rain of arrows, as though a cloud were pouring down torrents of water upon two mountains. The verse underscores the relentless intensity of righteous combat: steadfast valor meets steadfast resistance, and the battlefield becomes a testing ground for resolve and duty.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethic of steadfastness in dharma-yuddha: even when facing revered opponents, a warrior committed to duty maintains unwavering effort. The simile of cloud and mountains frames endurance and resolve as central virtues amid conflict.

Sañjaya narrates that Bhīṣma, seeing Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna together on their chariot, renews his assault, releasing a dense barrage of arrows—likened to a cloud pouring rain upon two mountains.
